The Rose-breasted Grosbeak is one of our most beautiful birds. This year is the first time I have ever seen one and now I have two that visit my yard feeders every day. They are quite tame and not shy about me sitting in my window hide taking pictures of them. They first showed up in May, visited every day for a week or so, then didn't show up for a week or more. The female then started appearing to eat the sunflower seeds I have out. She was coming and going many times a day, every day, but no male came with her. After several weeks, the male reappeared while the female was absent. when he left, the female would show up to eat. They traded off like this, neither being here together. I just assume they have a nest in the woods across the road and are taking turns with nesting duties.
